JATD 2023 Congress Ethics

The collective experience of the JATD Congress is an opportunity to put into practice some of the values we defend.

We develop cooperative didactic engineering, and this leads us to work in groups where the cooperative option allows experienced researchers, young researchers and doctoral students, professors and actors from various fields of professional activity to act together, addressing a wide variety of issues. Our exchanges show an equal consideration of people.

At a Congress such as JATD's, we intend to show our concern for the respect of each person and for the consideration of all words in their diversity. This must be seen in the tone of the speeches, and in the content of what is expressed.

In particular, we want to avoid dissociating workshops for experienced didacticians on the one hand, and professionals, non-French speakers or beginners on the other. The Organising Committee will ensure that experienced and young researchers are represented as much as possible in each workshop. The Congress does not include symposia or group workshops. We hope that the intellectual exchanges will be beneficial to all and will strengthen the cooperative links between us.

Ethics of the teacher

As teachers and/or researchers, we understand democracy as a process that leads to the collective determination of what is accepted, recognised, shared, and considered "true" in a field, regardless of their opinions or beliefs. The imposition of ideas through fear, or worse, through terror, cannot be the basis for living together. We condemn any fundamentalism that would claim to decide, in the name of a dogma, what can or cannot be done, said, drawn or criticised. We declare our unwavering attachment to freedom of conscience and freedom of expression as guaranteed in France by the 1905 law on secularism and the 1881 law on freedom of the press. Whatever the promoters of new fascisms may think, these laws guarantee in particular the right to what they call "blasphemy".

In this perspective, we are in full solidarity with teachers who, like Samuel Paty, participate in the training of citizens and the development of a lucid and critical mind, in the respect of consciences and of the common law.
